Conclave 2003 - A Great Success!

235 Arrowmen from Alaska and Western Washington convened at Goldenview Middle School in Anchorage, Alaska for the 2003 Section W-1B Conclave. There were 238 Arrowman from Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California in attendance this year. 

Uncas Awards and Degrees from Conclave

Many of you have likely come home wondering when you will be receiving your Uncas (Conclave Spirit) Award and College Degree. Be reassured that the Section will promptly send these to your Lodge Chief for distribution. We encourage you to attend your next lodge event or contact your Lodge Chief directly. Four Arrowmen receive W-1B Doctorate Degrees

The very first Doctorate degrees from the Section W-1B Tequan Wask University were bestowed upon four arrowmen on Sunday morning of Conclave. Bob Davies from T'Kope KwisKwis Lodge, Richard Howe of Nanuk Lodge and Drew Desilet from Wauna La-Mon'tay Lodge (honorary) were the recipients. These arrowmen have attended the last four W-1B conclaves previously earning their Associate, Bachelor's & Master's degrees. To earn their Doctorate degree, each student had to complete a detailed project to offer service back to scouting and present their project to next year's Doctorate class. Congratulations arrowmen!

SOAP Program is a Highlight of Conclave Experience

The Section Outdoor Adventure Place, SOAP for short, was the newest addition to our section this year and turned out to be a highlight of Conclave 2003. The Council of Chiefs felt that we had lost sight of our camping roots and decided to do something about it. In creating SOAP we kept in mind that FUN is the key. CVC Alex Minneman and his staff worked very hard to provide you with the best experience that they could. This year's SOAP included such things as rock climbing, GPS navigation, fly-tying and fly-fishing, REI, Park Rangers, and much more. This program is bound to get better each year so come to Conclave 2004 to experience all SOAP has to offer!

Patch Auction Results

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Silent and Live Patch Auctions.  Your dedication and generosity contributed $4364 to the Section's operating fund.  This will allow the Section to operate for the next year and will help to keep the cost of Conclave down for next year.

We had several arrowmen who received the special silver mylar bordered Section back patch for spending over $300 in the patch auction. They include David Anderson, Toby Capps, David Carr, Arlie Hash, Stewart Johnston and John Riekena. The two highest youth bidders in the auction, David Knapp and Alex Minneman, also received this patch.
