Countdown to Conclave 2003

Submitted by David Uhl

On April 25-27, an event so amazing is happening that it can only be called Conclave 2003. Coming to Alaska for the first time since 2000, Conclave looks to be the most exciting happening of the year.  Featuring Arrowmen from around the nation and especially focused for you and your area, come experience all the games, all the activities, the shows, and the patch trading.

Costing only $35 for youth and $38 for adults, Conclave 2003 at Goldenview Middle School in Anchorage will deliver the memory of the lifetime.  You thought you knew Scouting events in the past.  Wait until you come here.  Too much to do and so little time to do it.  Sleep is optional and for when you go home.  Happening only once a year, do not miss your chance to be a part of something you will remember for the rest of your life.

Conclave 2003 offering the quote “Steadfast as the Polestar” announces its location and purpose with full force.  Hailing from Alaska, it reminds us of the Order’s dedication to service, but in a new way.  If you do not know what I mean, you just have to come and find out.  For more information getting to Conclave 2003, check back here or contact your lodge chief.  The only question left to ask: Will you be there to experience the adventure?

2003 Section W1-B Conclave Memorabilia Auction

Are you looking for the biggest & best conclave patch/memorabilia auction in the Northwest? Look no further as the 2003 Conclave Auction is simply going to be amazing!

Once again, we are asking for your help to make this auction a success!

The Section offers two recognition items for those Arrowmen that help with this year's auction. The first item goes to those that donate $50 or more worth of items to be auctioned off. This item is the Conclave patch with a special white border. The other item is the Section back patch with a special silver mylar border. It goes anyone who purchases $300, or more, during the auction and to the two highest youth bidders.

Proceeds from the auction help offset Section Officer Travel, Conclave expenses and fund the Lodge Assistance Program. We will be soliciting on Friday evening of Conclave. We prefer to receive patches (OA flaps, CSP’s, Camp Patches, Neckerchiefs, etc.) but will accept anything that people will bid on including memorabilia or services such as Indian art & bead work, sports tickets, gifts certificates, etc. Thank you again for supporting our section!

We have just posted some of the possible tour/tourist activities information on our lodge website. Please check out http://www.bsawac.org/355/conclave.html for more information.  There is a link down near the bottom of the page. We are also working out housing accommodations for those who wish to fly in Thursday night and hang out Friday.  Last time this was basically a place to crash with a host family for the night. More information will be posted soon.

Dear Brothers

Coming off an amazing Conclave hosted by Nisqually, preparations are well underway for Conclave 2003 being held in Anchorage, Alaska.  For evidence of this, check out the Council of Chiefs’ page.  Each person listed is dedicated to making conclave happen and making it the best ever.

This year promises to have amazing shows, awesome training and outstanding activities on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.  In addition to that, we are putting a strong emphasize on American Indian Events to gear up for Indian Summer and promote the importance of strong ceremonies.  We are also getting back to our camping roots by creating the Section Outdoor Adventure Place (SOAP).  It will include such people and events as Park Rangers, low impact camping, a climbing wall, Dutch oven cooking, and TOAP found at NOAC.  Don’t miss out on this great opportunity.  Experience the Adventure.

In addition to all of this, the Order of the Arrow also offers other great experiences for Arrowmen to join.  This summer, the Order is offering three events that can change your life.  The first is Indian Summer being held in August.  The other two programs are the OA Trail Crew at Philmont Scout Ranch and the OA Wilderness Voyage at the Northern Tier High Adventure Base.  These three programs give you time to reflect on the spirit of the Order and the Scout Oath and Law.  For more information about these programs, click on the above links, check out the National OA web site or contact your lodge chief.

All these great things are happening because, like this year’s Conclave theme “Steadfast as the Polestar,” Arrowmen are being asked to stand tall as the Honor Society of Scouting. I would like to thank all of you for being a part of this and I will see you at Conclave 2003 at Goldenview Middle School in Anchorage, Alaska.

Yours in Service,
David Uhl
Section Chief

Conclave 2003

In 2003, we will be returning to Goldenview Middle School in Anchorage, Alaska for Conclave.  The Council of Chiefs is working very hard to put together a great event.  Conclave 2003 will be the fourth year of the Teaquan Wask University (TWU) program.  If you have attended the last three Conclave, you could be able to earn your Doctorate degree.  Check back soon for more information about TWU and other exciting programs.
